I guess by now it’s been well established that I am not a fan of changing Action’s diapers. At. All. However, I will admit that there were some things about the diaper experience that I’ve come to enjoy, like some of the games Action and I would play to make the time pass quickly.
One of my favorite games I would play with Action was the “Leaping Game.” After changing Action’s diaper, I would stand her up on the changing pad to put on her pants. After I put her pants on, I would hold open my arms and Action would leap… well, it was more like a falling forward, she couldn’t jump back then, into my outstretched arms. I loved playing that game with her because I got my daily hug and Action got to do something that would normally give the Missus a heart attack. For the better part of a year, Action and I would religiously play the leap game. It was the highlight of an otherwise crappy (pun intended) chore. Before long, Action slowly stopped playing the leap game with me. It bummed me out initially, but I just chalked it up to her getting older and not enjoying our little game.
Fast forward two months later.
Action, the Missus, and myself are in the living room relaxing. Correction, the Missus is relaxing while I’m changing Actions diaper. Action has mellowed out from our earlier battles, so it was a pretty uneventful session. I stand her up and put on her pants. Thinking I’m finished, I turn away and bend down to pick up the dirty diaper. I’m picking up the soiled diaper when the Missus yells out. Out of the corner of my eye, I see two little feet launch themselves off the changing pad like
HOLY FU** – KNUCKLES!
This is one of those times I’m extremely grateful for having long arms. I managed to swing my arm out and grab her before she hit the floor. Who knows? Action jumped hard enough that she might’ve landed on the couch. I wasn’t taken that chance.
The Missus laughed and said, “Oh my word! She jumped off like she was Lady Gaga at the Super Bowl Halftime Show!”
Heh, now that was true.
Outwardly, I laughed at Action’s daredevil exploits, but inside, I was like
On the positive side, Action and I are back to playing the Leaping Game… under closer surveillance of course.
